New Inductee of “100 Club” Hall of Fame

hall of fameCongratulations to Darren Titley who is the latest angler to qualify as a member of the Red Horses’ prestigious “100 club”.

Our Hall of Fame recognizes Members who have “Done the Ton” and recorded weights of 100lb or more in a match.

Darren caught a weight of 116lb 2oz from the Willows Spring Pool Penkridge.

This is one of our venues that often produes big weights in Red Horses matches and true to form  yesterday’s match resulted in the top three anglers all weighing in over 100lb.

I dropped in at the venue on Thursday (a warm sunny day) and saw countless carp basking and cruising on top.

Chatting with the bailiff he told me 112lb won Wednesdays match – mainly F1s with carp taken in the margins later on mostly caught on meat. Other methods he recommended were pellet shallow and also paste,  particularly on the deeper – siltier side of the lake, if it starts to fizz.

Hope to see you all there on Sunday

Venue Changes 6th August & 1st October

Two changes to the match calendar have been made for 6th August & 1st October this year. The new venue for both dates will be  OTHERTON FISHERY.

Our match secretary Alan Duke has been to check it out and spent a day fishing  there. Returning with a positive report, we believe this venue will be an improvement on the original venue booked; where catches have not been good for some time.

Willows Rules (Confirmed)

Last Sundays match was one of the best we’ve had this season; with a good spread of weights, most being well over 40lb.

Congratulations to Neville Duke, who pipped Steve Randle by a single ounce, to the win with 94lb 4oz.

It just goes to show that sometimes restrictive rules can focus your approach to the match.

On the subject of which; we now have the definitive rules in writing for matches fished at this venue.

Hillside Fishing Pool – New Venue

banner2

This Sunday’s match is at a new venue for our event list; Hillside fishing Pool in Cheadle.

It is a well manicured pool, which will be a nice antidote to the snaggy Canal Pool at Baden Hall last week.(I’m not still bitter about breaking a pole section – honest!)

There are toilet facilities on site and a  cabin serving fresh tea and coffee

The 18 pegs all have solid platforms to fish from and the pool slopes from 2′ 6″ in the margins to 7′ at it’s deepest point.

Normal match rules apply and the only baits bans are boilies or floating baits.

Pellet, meat and sweetcorn normally pick up the carp with maggot and caster providing a lot of bites from the good head of silver fish present.

The venue will provide all nets and the bailiff on site will respond to a shout to weigh fish over 5lb which must be returned straight away.

How to get there:

Hillside Fishing Pool
Hillside Industrial Estate
Cheadle
Staffordshire ST10 1PN

At the Draycott Cross Road. Turn right at the Huntsman Pub (signposted Draycott). The entrance is the first right (about 300 metres) and is signposted from the road.
