today ..on spey ….Well where do I start …1st of all …what a venue ..most of us have fished many open and club matches here….lovely Fishery…1 of the best in the UK…lovely just to come and sit by the cafe and under the big tent …with lots going on …Sun was beaming..26 degrees …absolute burner ..9 fished today in what can only be described as a grueller with the heat burning down on us …Fish were cruising and sucking at the weeds on top ..and we knew it was going be hard as the weights proved …We have many quality anglers in our club and it proved hard work for us all especially Simon Griffin as not long into the match he took a 30-minute break because the sun knocked him sick …Top 2 today were..1st Jamie Martin 44lb.102nd Steve Hanson 32lb. Steve started the match on Hard 6mm across feeding micros to start had 3 small carp then nothing so fished both margins on the paste for the rest of the day. As I took a break to get water I passed Steve and he said he wasn’t having much luck and was finding it hard…The margins obviously worked for him …Jamie ( the scouse assassin) was fishing maggots shallow to the far bank reed cover. With it being so hot, bright, and still, he thought he could tempt a few out from the reeds. He had 25 F1s and a few silvers including a couple of tench, can’t beat a tench! Tried a few other things but none of them worked! He turned to what looked like pellet shallow and was productive…he did fish the margins but nothing really happened for him…his biggest fight of the day came from not a fish but being caught in the reeds ..not once but 3 times ….you’d think an angler would learn from mistakes after the 1st time Haha …Nev duke could quite possibly have framed as he told me he started fishing corn and casters and was catching but all too l8. It really was hard for everybody. Sun and spawning fish showed on the weights …Congratulations to our top 2 and
well done to all who fished today….don’t beat yourselves up it was hard today…
