This weeks venue is Horns Pool which is situated behind the Horns Pub at Slitting Mill (WS15 2UW). Approximately 3 miles further on from Carneys (if you are traveling from the Stafford direction that is)
The track to the left hand side of the pub, takes you down to the car park by the pool.
I dropped in at the venue on Thursday (a warm sunny day) and saw countless carp basking and cruising on top.
Chatting with the bailiff he told me 112lb won Wednesdays match – mainly F1s with carp taken in the margins later on mostly caught on meat. Other methods he recommended were pellet shallow and also paste, particularly on the deeper – siltier side of the lake, if it starts to fizz.
Hope to see you all there on Sunday
Answer: When it is a “Pool”
I have been reliably informed; by those that know this venue well, that there is both a Match “Lake” and a Match “Pool” (Although Heronbrook’s Website does not have the Pool listed) so to correct my previous post:-
It is the Match Pool that we are fishing this Sunday.
The form on this Pool indicates that we should still be aiming for 100lb for a win with over 50lb for a place – so still a good days fishing to be had
Apologies for any confusion
This week’s event is on the Match Lake at Heronbrook, which has been consistently producing weights well over 100lb (some over 200lb!) in recent open matches.
An opportunity then; for us all, to have a big day, even if it doesn’t put us in to the “100 Club“.
Heronbrook is a “3 net” venue (fish to be split evenly between nets) so don’t forget to dust off that 3rd one and bring it with you on Sunday.
Hope to see you all there
Don’t forget that we kick off the season early this year with a match booked on Capricious Pool – Blake Hall this coming Sunday.
With mild overcast weather forecast for the weekend it should be good conditions for Bream and some bonus carp.
We will be meeting at the hut as usual but with the later draw at 9:30 there should also be time for a crafty bacon butty and a brew.
Hope to see you all there
Thank you to everyone that made it to the AGM last night
For those members that couldn’t make it, the 2018 Match Diary has now been released and can be found by visiting

Let us have your suggestions over the next 7 days by replying to this email or posting a comment on the website; we can then circulate copies of the Agenda and confirm the date and time of the meeting to everyone in good time.
Hope to see you all at the meeting, the new season is just round the corner.
“SPRING IS COMING”
The last match of the season is traditionally a silver fish match; as the colder weather reduces the reliability of carp being caught in most pegs.
This is a welcome opportunity to target a wider variety of fish to keep the bites coming.
By popular request this year we have booked Blake hall fisheries which has a high stocking level of silvers.
With the recent heavy rain, now having subsided and the colder drier weather forecast for Sunday 9th November the roach and bream should be switched on ready for a good days fishing.
As you know; Alan the match secretary, puts in a lot of effort each year, providing prizes for everyone at the event and we hope you will all be be able to attend and show your support.
The draw is 08:30 as normal at the Cafe – fishing the Blake Pool
With lots of members unable to attend this Sunday, together with bad weather forcast, this weeks match has been cancelled
